What’s a Health Declaration?

A health declaration is a document participants agree to before attending a yoga class, confirming they are in suitable health and informing the instructor of any relevant medical concerns. It helps minimise health risks, ensures safety, and protects the students as well as the teacher.

Sacred Stretches Yoga – Health Declaration & Consent

To participate in our yoga sessions at Sacred Stretches Yoga (“we”, “us”, “our”), please read and affirm the following:

1. Health Confirmation
I confirm that I am physically fit and have no medical condition or injury (current or chronic) that would prevent me from safely participating in yoga. Where applicable, I have consulted my doctor or healthcare provider and received clearance to participate in physical activity. The exercise instruction and advice presented in the classes are in no way intended as a substitute for medical consultation.

2. Medical Disclosure
I understand that yoga can involve stretches, movements, and poses that may place strain on my body. I agree to inform the instructor before every class if I have:

  • High or low blood pressure

  • Pregnancy or recent childbirth

  • Back, neck, or joint injuries

  • Heart conditions or respiratory issues

  • Recent surgery or being under medical treatment

  • Any other health concerns, limitations, or pain

3. Personal Responsibility
I will listen to my body and participate only to my own comfort level. I understand that I may choose to modify or stop any movement or pose at any time without feeling pressured. The instructor will offer guidance, but it’s my responsibility to proceed safely.

As with any exercise programme, if at any point during the class you begin to feel faint, dizzy or have any physical discomfort, you should stop immediately and seek medical advice. Sukhasan (Easy pose), Sukhasan with back supported by wall, Balasan (childs pose), Vajrasan (Thunderbolt pose) are your rest positions in addition to simply lying down, if you feel total discomfort, dizzy or feel faint during the class. Seek urgent medical attention by dialing 999 if things worsen.

Please ensure you are in a clear space with no obvious hazards, with ventilation, appropriate lighting and access to water.

Stay hydrated throughout the class.

Please use good judgement and common sense when taking the class, consider your level and ability and choose the appropriate level of the exercises and rest when you need to.

4. Acceptance of Risk
I acknowledge that participation in yoga involves inherent risks—including muscle strain, falls, or other injuries—and I’m participating voluntarily and at my own risk. Exercise is not without risks and this or any other exercise programme may result in injury. The risks include but are not limited to: risk of injury, aggravation of a pre-existing condition, or adverse effect of over-exertion such as muscle strain, abnormal blood pressure, fainting, disorders of heart beat, and very rare instances of heart attack.

5. Liability Waiver
I release Sacred Stretches Yoga, its instructors, and staff from any liability for injuries or losses, unless due to their negligence.

6. Consent
I confirm:

  • I am at least 18 years old (or have parental/guardian consent if under 18)

  • I have read and understood this health declaration

  • I have read and understood the FAQs here

  • I agree to its terms and consent to participate under these conditions
